Quality After-School Programs (QAP) is a community focused organization whose stated goal and purpose is bringing communities, parents and schools together in the programmatic support and fiscal management of after-school academic and enrichment activities.

  • Improve students’ social skills
  • Improve their self-confidence
  • Improve their homework quality
  • Enhance their academic achievement and give the higher aspirations
  • Increase their interest and ability in reading
  • Encourage them to develop new skills and interests
  • Improve school attendance and reduce dropout rate
  • Prevent negative influences that lead to risky behaviors
  • Increase family and community involvement with children
  • Prevent crime, juvenile delinquency, and violent victimization

Our programs keep children of all ages safe and out of trouble because they meet family needs by providing responsible adult supervision of children during nonschool hours. They also offer rewarding, challenging, and age-appropriate activities in a safe, structured, positive environment.

Other than traditional interscholastic programs, practitioners and researchers find that the best after school programs combine several different activities. Specifically, the types of activities found in QAP programs include:

  • Mentoring
  • Computer instruction
  • Homework assistance centers
  • College awareness and preparation
  • Activities linked to law enforcement
  • Employment preparation or training
  • Courses and enrichment in culture and the arts
  • Volunteer and community service opportunities
  • Drug and violence prevention curricula and counseling
  • Truancy prevention
  • Supervised recreation and athletic programs and events
  • Language instruction, including English as a second language
  • Youth leadership
  • Tutoring and supplementing instruction in basic skills, such as reading, math, and science.

QAP programs are guided by an advisory committee consisting of but not limited to school administrators, teachers, civic, business and community leaders, and church and parent volunteers. The combined experience and expertise of this group will directly impact the successful implementation and ongoing management of the after school program. The leadership of QAP has a proven record of success in developing and managing after school educational programs and activities funded through local, state, and federal agencies. QAP has an internal management and accounting infrastructure to support grant programming and in collaboration with the district, employ and train highly qualified individuals to provide student services and to ensure the program is effectively implemented.
